Why is a radar chart useful?
When an account is scored on six or seven dimensions at once, the useful question is rarely 'what is the value of dimension four' - it is 'is this account lopsided, and where'. A shape answers that instantly.

How to read it
Read dents and spikes, not area. The enclosed area depends on the arbitrary order of the spokes, so it carries no real meaning - reordering the axes changes it.
Limitations to keep in mind
Radar charts need every axis on a common normalised scale, and they mislead badly if the axes have different units. Never put more than two or three profiles on one.

Why should I not compare the area of radar shapes?
Because the area depends on the order the axes are drawn in. Rearranging the same data on the same chart changes the area without changing the data.
